Determination of N,N-Dimethylformamide in Polyurethane Synthetic Leather by High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Abstract
A method for the determination of N,N-Dimethylformamide in polyurethane synthetic leather was developed by high performance liquid chromatography. Sample was ultrasonically extracted with pure water. After being purified with membrane filter, the extract was quantitatively determined by HPLC method. Instrument conditions were optimized. The optimized mobile phases were methanol and water (20%∶80%), and the detector at 205 nm was used. The calibration curves of N,N-Dimethylformamide was linear in the range of 0.1-10 mg/L, and correlation coefficients (r2) was 0.9999. The detection limit was 0.23 mg/kg, and the limit of quantitation was 0.78 mg/kg. The spiked average recoveries varied from 96.2% to 99.8% at three spiked levels with relative standard deviation (RSD, n=6) of 2.1%-5.1%. The proposed method was simple, rapid, accurate and stable, reproducible for determination of N,N-Dimethylformamide in polyurethane synthetic leather.
